What would make Apple Movie Rentals Crush

Now this probably could not happed due to the crazy contracts and multi corporation deals, but if it did, it would make me buy an Apple TV, buy a .mac account and rent a lot of movies. Here it is Make Movie Rentals Subscription Based And Package It With .mac. .mac is probably the coolest yet most underused Apple product out there. For those that don’t know, .mac is, in a nut shell, a way to sync your entire digital life (photos, calendars, address books, computers ect.) in the most hassle free way. However, it is one more subscription fee that most users do not want to pay for. Package that with movie rentals and you will see an explosion of subscriptions, Apple TV purchases and best of all revenue.

Here is how you do it. When you buy a .mac subscription (normally $99 a year) you have the option to upgrade to the movie subscription tier which would cost an extra $200 or so. So you would be paying about $25 a month for both. This I could swing and would. Movie rentals would work with the same 30 + 24 model already announced, however you could only have 3 movie rented at a time. This would prevent people from keeping their rented movies forever and acting like they owned them. Simple, easy and much more appealing then $4 bucks a pop.

Me being a realist, I do not see this happening anytime soon. But something that would be cool and makes a lot of sense would be to have the option to purchase the movie you just rented with the rental fee going towards the purchase price. Now that alone might make me go buy an Apple TV. They are so close with this one…
